*Sedans may use 13x7 (any width up to 7") steel wheels with any offset from 2"-5". Track width may not exceed 63 1/2"
Simplicity is the key: Drivers must be a minimum of 14 years of age. Drivers must have a STM (Short Track) License (in good standing) to compete. The eligibility of the Driver to compete will be determined by Officials, also known as "Track Officials". The Technical Advisory Committee will make the final decision of interpretation and the intended spirit of these rules.
General Disclaimer Statement: The rules set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS. These rules are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or Track Official.
Track Officials shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein, or to impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion does not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT THEREFROM. Any interpretation of, or deviation from, these rules is left to the discretion of Track Officials. The decisions of Technical Advisory Committee are final.
Any deviation from these rules granted by any Track Official must be in writing and delivered/distributed to all owners/or drivers in division. Notice will include what deviation, date of deviation and reason for deviation.
Protest: Driver/Owner of car that protests any competitor must remain at track for the duration of the protest/tear down or protest will automatically be waived. Any protest monies will then be forfeited to Owner of protested car if not found illegal.
The concept of the Sedan class is to provide an "affordable" venue of circle track racing. The class may be considered a SPEC class, in that almost all the cars are the same or at least similar. These rules are restrictive to hold the cost of racing down to a minimum. Although widely touted as being a "beginner" class...it is not, it is just affordable.
Circle track racing is considered a contact sport. So with hopefully only slight contact, and a small outlay of cash, a Racer can have some fun and be a part of America's most popular sport.
Radios will be allowed. Transponders are required. AMB transponders are to be vertically mounted 12" in front of the leading edge of the right rear axle housing and securely attached to the frame with a clear, unobstructed path to the pavement. Rented transponders must be mounted in the same manner and location. For further clarification, please refer to the AMB Manual.
The primary car is the Toyota Corolla (Toyota Sedan) production rear wheel drive, with a stock 2-TC Toyota Corolla 1588 engine made prior to September 1979, with stock components (O.E.M. stock replacement parts allowed) unless specifically stated otherwise in this rule book. No TRD Parts. No 4-doors, station wagons or lift-backs. Updating or backdating of drive train and suspension parts from competing models is allowed. The Driver is responsible to inform Track Officials upon request, of the year and the model of parts interchanged. Parts must interchange without modifications.
Bodies; Bodies must remain stock, body panels such as fenders, doors and quarter panels may be fabricated out of sheet metal (no lighter than 22 gauge), but must remain stock in appearance.
Other production (other brands and models) four cylinder sedans may compete in the sedan class, but will compete with a break out rule for this option, this car cannot run faster in a race than the fast time set by a Toyota Sedan on a given event . The other make and models must be at least 2,000lbs and have all the proper safety equipment. There will be NO BREAK OUT limit on the Toyota Sedan in which this class is based on.
These rules are considered permissive. All components shall be stock in stock location unless specifically authorized by these rules or subsequently published Tech Advisories (in other words, if it doesn't say you can do it, you can't).
It is ultimately the obligation of each participant to insure that his conduct and equipment comply with all applicable Madera Speedway rules and regulations as they may be amended from time to time. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of or compliance with these rules. These rules are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants, spectators or others.
1. All measurements will be done with car as raced with Driver.
2. The Driver is responsible to insure his/her car meets all rules/technical specifications. NO EXCUSES! i.e., "I'm not a mechanic.", "I bought the car this way" . These and similar statements are not acceptable.
1. All cars must have a stock 2-TC 1588 c.c. Toyota engine and stock components (O.E.M. stock replacement parts allowed) unless specifically stated in this rule book.
2. Engines may be bored a maximum of 3.0 mm.
3. Compression ratio: 11:1. No cylinder can be over 11.5:1. No tolerance.
4. Aftermarket Rods ok must be same weight or heavier than stock rods 540 grams
5. Intake manifold must be stock (no alterations, no grinding or porting). Existing EGR, vacuum and water ports may be blocked, no welding allowed (not even to repair). Stock single phenolic or aluminum spacer must be used.
6. Stock carburetor only from stated 2-TC motor. Choke butterfly in air horn may be removed. No grinding or polishing or interchanging of parts to improve air flow will be allowed. Jets may be changed and throttle linkage modified to full mechanical."
6.1 A Weber 32/36 DG with no spacer may be used instead of a factory carburetor. Stated carb rules still apply.
7. All smog devices may be removed.
8. Air filter required. May be any filter but must be 360 degrees open. No ducting or pressure boxes. Must be under hood.
9. Engines must have two throttle return springs.
10. Exhaust manifold must be stock cast iron (no alterations, except to block off smog parts).
11. Exhaust pipes must exit a minimum of 12 inches behind driver. Mufflers are required. No parts on the exhaust system may protrude beyond the body. Exhaust noise not to exceed 86 decibels at 100 feet.
12. Stock ignition only, advance curve may be altered. After market non-adjustable, non-programmable ignition box will be allowed such as an MSD.
13. Stock Toyota alternator only. (Optional)
14. Stock mechanical fuel pumps only. Pressure regulator may be added.
15. Engine balancing shall consist of removing a minimal amount of material. No "knife edging" or "cheese boarding.".
16. No porting or polishing of intake, exhaust or cylinder head allowed.
17. Camshaft shall have a maximum lift of ".260" lift as measured in motor with lifters and push rods. Measuring shall be done with official tech equipment and shall have a maximum tolerance of ".005". Duration and centers are restricted. You must use stock lifters. (No roller lifters allowed.) Unmachined stock Toyota lifters, push rods and rocker assemblies shall be used. No offset rocker bushing. Offset keys or adjustable cam gear may be used to adjust cam timing.
18. Any spark plugs and wires okay.
19. No polishing of crank shaft counter weights or lightening of rods or polishing except to balance engine.
20. No offset grinding of crank shaft to increase stroke over stock.
21. No offset bushings in connecting rod wrist pins.
22. After market pistons okay - no modifications allowed.
23. Stock valves of stock dimensions and any single valve springs may be used. Five-angle valve job is legal. Only one single spring and single damper per valve is allowed.
24. Any rings, bearings, gaskets, nuts, bolts, washers and offset keys are allowed.
1. Stock Toyota Corolla 4-speed (T-40) and 5-speed (T-50) only (no modifications). No automatic transmissions. All gears must work.
2. A 1-1/2" hole must be cut in the sheet metal flywheel cover. Hole must be positioned so Track Official can clearly see front side of flywheel. A second hole 1-1/2" must be cut in the bottom of the bell housing, must be positioned so Track Official can clearly see back edge of flywheel, clutch cover and clutch disc.
Must run stock drive shaft. Must be painted white with legible car number.
1. Stock Toyota Corolla parts only unless specifically stated otherwise.
2. Leaf springs and front springs must be stock from Toyota Corolla.
3. No rear coil spring cars.
4. Cutting front springs allowed and lower blocks on rear springs allowed (heating springs permitted or de-arching allowed). " Rubber spring spacers allowed in front spring to increase spring rate. " Rear leaf spring clamps may be moved, added or removed. Any combination of leaf springs (increase, decrease, size, and number) with stock rubber bushings may be used. Adjustable rear shackles up to 5" in length may be used. No mono leaf springs.
5. O.E.M. style shocks in stock location only (no air or adjustable shocks allowed). Gas shocks Okay.
6. Only stock bushings are allowed.
7. Front strut towers may be connected for strength. Adjustable front struts allowed.
8. Front strut cartridges and rear shocks may be claimed for $25 each and exchange for yours.
9. Camber may be altered. Lower control arms may be lengthened to 13 inches (center line of bushing to ball joint). No tolerance. Relocating the inside mounting hole for the lower control arms and slotting the 4 cross member mounting points and moving the entire cross member to the right and altering top strut towers by slotting tower holes. You can run caster differential as long as it stays wheel base limitations.
10. Any toe in or toe out is allowed.
11. No bending of struts allowed.
12. Wheel base not to exceed +/- 1 1/2" difference both sides left to right checked with driver in car (stock wheel base 93.3 for TE-31, TE-51, TE-35 and TE-37, and stock wheel base for 91.3 for TE-20, TE-21 and TE-27). Any Toyota front sway bar may be used as long as it mounts to tension rod boxes and "I" arms in stock location
13. Except for exhaust, no other part of car can fall below minimum ride height. Minimum ride height: 4" with driver in car ready to race.
14. Exhaust: 3" from ground. 15. Maximum track width is 63 1/2"
15. Weight: 2,000 lbs. minimum. " All weights and measurements will be done with car race-ready with driver in seat ready to race. " No more than 58.0% left side weight.
1. Stock Toyota Corolla or removable steering wheel allowed and recommended, steering wheel protection pad required.
2. Steering box behind steering box may be altered and moved for driver comfort only.
3. No plastic steering wheel disconnecting systems allowed.
1. Stock Toyota Corolla only. After-market brake pads or shoes allowed.
2. No adjustable brake balancing devices. Single plunger after-market cylinder allowed, with adapter plate as long as it is similar to O.E.M.
3. Stock power brakes okay.
4. Brakes on all 4 wheels must function.
CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL:
Stock Toyota Corolla only. No aluminum or after-market flywheels. Flywheel may be lightened by surfacing only on the clutch side. No flex plates allowed.
1. Stock Toyota Corolla only (410 gear ratio), eight or ten-bolt rear end only. NOTE, you may use an OEM replacement ring and pinion gear set, but it must be the same or greater weight than the stock gear set.
2. No locked rear ends or welded spider gears allowed.
3. No limited slip rear end differentials or Torque sensing drives.
4. Rear spring pads cannot be moved on stock rear end. Housing must be in stock location and length.
TIRES & WHEELS:
ALL RACING WHEELS MUST MEET RIM AND TIRE MANUFACTURER ASSOCIATION SPECIFICATIONS. NO EXTREME SAFETY BEEDS ALLOWED - NO EXCEPTIONS. 1. Tires may only be purchased at Madera Speedway.
2. Spec tire: Hoosier 23.0/7.0-13-7" tread.
3. Thirteen inch four-spoke Toyota SR-5 wheels or 13x7 inch (any width up to 7" wide) after-market steel wheel. Offsets from 2-5 inches may be used.
a. Lug nuts must be non-capping type (threads all the way through). After-market studs and nuts okay.
b. Two spacers per wheel may be used but you must have at least 1/2" of lug nut thread showing after the wheel is tight. Longer dorman style wheel studs will be required to get a full nut of threads.
4. No wheel weights on outside of wheels allowed
5. No air bleeders allowed.
1. Fuel cells are mandatory (maximum 22 gallons). Must be mounted in the center of car behind rear end and mounted between frame rails.
2. Cell must be double strapped (1" x 1/8" minimum straps). Fuel cell must be centered in a metal container with lid and drain holes in bottom if trunk floor is cut out (subject to Track Official approval). Fuel cell vents must be equipped with a racing approved rollover valve and vent to underside of car next to fuel cell. THE EXIT OF THE VENT TUBE MUST BE ABOVE FUEL TANK LEVEL. (No PVC valves or open vent line allowed.) Fuel cell not to be considered ballast.
3. Stock fuel lines okay. Modified fuel lines that run through the driver's compartment must be enclosed in a sealed metal tube. Tube must be securely fastened on right side of drive tunnel only. Aeroquip steel braid or equal is okay.
4. Must have steel fire wall between trunk and driver's compartment, minimum 20 gauge. No galvanized.
5. Fuel cell must have approved racing rollover valve and be vented to the underside of car next to the fuel cell.
6. Fuel cap must be tethered to fuel cell by cable or small chain.
FUEL RULE & FUEL TESTING:
1. All engines will run (Brand of Fuel?TBA).
2. All Fuel must be purchased at Madera Speedway or approved Vendor. (TBA)
3. No mixing or blending of fuels.
4. Fuels may be randomly tested at any time by Madera Speedway Track Officials.
Each $100 protest may include two items which are considered to be minor protest. Any additional items are $35 each.
1. The two persons who are eligible to file a protest are the car's registered owner or the registered driver.
2. Your car must be competing in the same class at the same event to be eligible to file a protest.
3. If your car was disqualified for any reason during that event, you are not eligible to file a protest.
4. The protest must be filed within 15 minutes after your main event by depositing a signed request with a Track Official and the appropriate protest fees.
5. It will be considered a $100 protest for each of the following items: " Top end of engine, including intake and exhaust. " Bottom end of engine. " Flywheel, clutch, transmission.
6. If your car is protested it is your responsibility to supply the necessary tools and manpower to disassemble your car for inspection.
7. Inspections will be done at the track that day. No exceptions will be made.
8. If you are found to be illegal, you will lose your points and purse for that event and the protester will get his/her protest fee back. If you are found to be legal, the protester will lose his/her protest fee and it will be given to the car owner/driver who is protested.
9. All decisions by the Technical Advisory Committee are considered final.
1. Assigned numbers at least 20" high and minimum 4" wide must be neatly painted on both sides of car on doors, and minimum 30" numbers on roof reading from passenger side. All numbers must be high/major contrast with car colors, be non-reflecting and easy to read from a distance (for your benefit). No airbrush shading allowed. Prefer white with contrasting border. No silver or gold, metallic, chrome or glitter. Final decision by scoring personnel.
2. Number must also be on one of the headlight covers, minimum of 4" in height.
3. Engine cubic inch size must be on hood.
4. Four-inch number required on front and rear headlight and taillight covers (driver's side).
1. Madera Speedway reserves the right to issue all car number in order to prevent duplication and maintain proper records. When a duplicate number is requested, car running the number the previous year will receive the number. Number requests must be made no later than February 1, 2009. Madera Speedway will try to carry over car numbers from year to year, however if the number is not reserved by February 1, 2009, the number will be released.
2. Madera Speedway reserves the right to temporarily change race car numbers to avoid duplication and ease scoring by adding an "x" or other letters to duplicate car numbers.
3. When a number other than that officially assigned is used, Madera Speedway will not score the vehicle and any points/purse monies will be reduced to zero.
4. No car number may be changed on Speedway premises, except by order of Madera Speedway to avoid duplication.
5. All cars must carry their assigned numbers before enter the Speedway premises.
The driver is responsible for having the proper tools required for any Technical Inspection (Official or because of protest). This includes hand tools, floor jacks, jack stands, and drain pan. Failure to complete any required tear down in a reasonable length of time may mean disqualification. WARNING: Do not rely on borrowing tools. Bring your own. Time is limited.
1. A factory manual will be used to obtain specifications and tolerances needed for technical measurements.
2. All measurements will be done with car as raced with driver in car.
3. On race day, your car cannot be touched by anyone once it has been teched and you are in the staging area (hot chute area).
1. The written acknowledgment of official interpretation or clarification of rules is the driver's responsibility.
2. It is the competitor's responsibility to prove with factory documentation that all parts on the car are stock for that vehicle. Again, all decisions of the Technical Advisory Committee are final.
3. Any modifications not covered in these rules will not be allowed unless approved in writing by Technical Advisory Committee.
4. Equipment will not be considered legal simply because it went through inspection unobserved or because a rule has not been written against it.
5. Cars are subject to inspection at any time.
6. Madera Speedway reserves the right to confiscate and hold any parts and/or equipment not conforming to the rules.
7. Madera Speedway reserves the right to judge, decide and establish what constitutes a legal part of car.
8. The Technical Advisory Committee decision will be final in all matters.
9. If you are in doubt of have any questions regarding whether or not something you want to do is allowed or legal, it is your responsibility (driver/owner) to check with Madera Speedway before making the change or modification to your car. The written acknowledgement of Official interpretation or clarification of rules is the driver's responsibility.
SAFETY SEATS and SEAT BELTS:
1. Approved racing seat only (aluminum or steel only - no fiberglass) must be padded. Seats must have approved metal frame bolted or welded to roll cage in such a fashion as to move with cage in the event of a crash.
2. Padded headrest mandatory.
3. A five-point S.F.I. approved harness with 3-inch lap and shoulder belts and a 2-inch sub belt is mandatory. Belts must be in excellent condition and subject to tech approval. Belts to be attached with 3/8" grade bolts, or 5/16" grade 8 bolts and secured with a 1/8" safety cable. " A quick release lap belt no less than three (3) inches wide is compulsory. Both ends of the lap belt must be fastened to the roll bar cage with high quality bolts not less than 3/8 inch in diameter. " Shoulder harness must be no less than three (3) inches wide and must come from behind the driver's seat. Where the harness crosses the roll cage, it must pass through a steel guide welded to the roll cage that will prevent the harness from sliding side to side. Shoulder harness inertia reels cannot be used. " A center (crotch) belt must be securely mounted to the lower seat frame at the bottom and to the lap seat belt on top. " Where the belts pass through the seat edges, it must have a grommet installed, be rolled, and/or padded to prevent cutting of the belt. " All seat belts and shoulder harness must connect at the lap belt with an approved quick release buckle. " Seat belts must be dated by the manufacturer and must not be used beyond three (3) years after the manufacture date. Untagged, undated belts will be considered out of date.
"Head and neck restraining devices are mandatory( neck collars/donuts are acceptable)
