2024 Pro Sportsman’s Series (posted on 12-18-23, clarifications are noted in red)

 

INTENT - This new class is a feeder class designed for race car drivers of all ages to learn and experience a full-sized racecar on a budget. The Pro Sportsman division allows a wide range of cars to compete from hobby stocks to old perimeter tour cars and the class is designed to utilize the large amount of out of date used equipment available in the motorsports market place today.

 

Pro Sportsman 602 crate engine Package - Cars operating under this package will meet the following requirements:

 

Weight – 2,950lbs prior to qualifying and any race.

602 crate engine is 56% maximum left side weight.

 

Engines- 602 crate cars will run a factory sealed 602 crate engine, 602 crates cars must run an MSD rev limiter and will be required to run a track provided 6,000 rev chip at all times. (Note-4-barrel carburetor allowed.) Chassis must be Hobby Stock OEM style or late model perimeter style with stock from clip or OEM replacement front clip and stock lower a-arms with OEM steering box.

 

Pro Sportsman open engine package - Cars operating under this package will meet the following requirements;

 

Weight - 3,100lbs prior to qualifying and any race. open engine is 56% maximum left side weight.

 

All open engines must be wet sump, and may be any cubic inch. (Note-4-barrel carburetor allowed.)

 

Engines- Open engine cars must run an MSD rev limiter and will be required to run a track provided

7,000 rev chip at all times. Chassis must be Hobby Stock OEM style or late model perimeter style with stock from clip or OEM replacement front clip and stock lower a-arms with OEM steering box.

 

Pro Sportsman with perimeter tour style chassis with fabricated front clip and rack and pinon steering (note, minimum 5” spring diameter) – Cars operating under this package will meet the following requirements;

 

Weight – factory sealed 602 package with 6,000 rev chip is 3,050lbs with 56% maximum left side weight. Open engine package with 7,000 rev chip is 3,200lbs with 56% maximum left side weight.

 

Common rules that apply to all packages:

 

Engine set back – engine set-back rule is up to 2" back, at the center of the forward most spark plug hole to the center of the upper ball joint on the same side. Wet sump engines only.

 

Body - Bodies may be made of steel, aluminum or fiberglass, Front half must be ABC style, roof must be ABC style of an OEM roof (entire body may be ABC style, rear ¼ panels may be fabricated and built in an outlaw style). Tail section must be fully enclosed. Note, any current hobby stock that competed in 2023 that is having trouble meeting all the body requirements will be given tolerance to allow them to compete.

 

No under body air deflectors or wings of any kind. Teams are allowed to mount two ½” tall roof rails

running front to rear on the roof of the car, but these rails are not allowed to extend down the rear

window or onto the deck lid. No passenger windows are allowed, maximum for the vent window along the top of the door will be 12 inches and must go 90 degrees from the top of the door up to the A-post. No fans, ducts or hoses to the rear brakes or tires, no holes or hoses are allowed through the interior sheet metal.

 

Maximum Rear deck height is 34 ½’. spoiler must be maximum of 6 ½ x 60’ wide and made in one piece. FRONT OVERHANG (max): 46” from front axle to front of nose on centerline. REAR OVERHANG (max): 47” from base of spoiler at centerline to rear axle centerline. Maximum rear body width is 79” wide.

 

Suspension - cars may run aftermarket suspension except for lower control arms, lower control must stock factory OEM style lower control for any make and model, Any style center link. All spring must be minimum 5” spring. Rear suspension will be leaf spring, 3 link or truck arm. (Note, 3 link frame must be 3 straight solid links. 3-piece sway bar okay.

 

Chassis - All cars must be perimeter style chassis with stock or OEM replacement front clip (full size center cage). OEM hobby stock factory style chassis are permitted. Fabricated perimeter late model chassis permitted with OEM stock front clip or OEM replacement clip. Fabricated tour style perimeter chassis permitted with rack and pinion steering, fabricated lower a-arms and 5” springs, note this chassis style will carry a 100-pound weight penalty.

 

A full roll cage built from a minimum 1 ¾ x .095 round tubing, and must have a complete set of driver side door bars and at least and "X" in the passenger side. Minimum square tube size 2x3 (note only support bars can be smaller than 1 ¾’). Note, there is an exception for

 

Chassis Weight Combinations – Factory Sealed 602 with Hobby Stock or Late Model Style perimeter chassis with stock front clip or OEM replacement clip with stock lower a-arms and full-sized steering box will be 2,950lbs and 56% left side weight.

 

Open Engine with Hobby Stock or Late Model Style perimeter chassis with stock front clip or OEM replacement clip with stock lower a-arms and full-sized steering box will be 3,100lbs and 56% left side weight.

 

Factory Sealed 602 with Tour Style Perimeter Chassis with rack and pinion steering and fabricated lower control arms will be 3,050lbs and a maximum 56% left. Open engine with Tour Style Perimeter Chassis will be 3,200lbs and 56% left side weight.

 

Wheels & Tires - Wheels must be 8" or less, and must be steel. Tires must be the Hoosier

8.0-15/970 treaded tire. All tires must be purchased from the track. Tires MUST NOT be cut, soaked or modified in any manner whatsoever. Used tires that were purchased from the Madera Speedway are ok to use.

 

Ride Height – There is a 4” ride height on all frame and body parts.

 

Fuel - All cars must run Sunoco 110 Purple track fuel or pump gas 91 octane

 

Drivetrain- 7 1/4 minimum clutch, with any Steel or aluminum bell housing that is SFI approved. transmission must be 3 or 4 speed OEM transmission (no Jerico, Brinn, Bert etc..). All gears must be functioning. No reverse mount starter setup. Drive shaft must be steel.

 

REARENDS – Quick Change ok, rear loading gears only. Minimum ring gear size is 10” outside diameter for quick change rear ends. No camber snouts. No gear driven lockers. Spring style locker allowed only. (Note - quick change 3 link rear end cars must only have 3 solid straight links, no springs, no rubber biscuits allowed).

 

TRACK WIDTH & Wheel Base - All competing cars will not exceed 78”-inch track width, it will be measured from the bulge outside to outside of the front tires at the spindle height. Minimum wheel base is 105". It will be measured from center of front and rear hub.

 

EXHAUST SYSTEM – Mufflers are mandatory. Any header under the maximum header cost of $500.00 retail from the manufacturer. Any muffler may be used provided maximum sound level 95 dB at 100' (Sound level will be strictly enforced). Dual exhaust OK. Exhaust must extend behind the driver's seat, exhaust may dump behind the driver downward under the car, or out of the passenger door. Any size outlet OK. Exhaust must be securely attached to the bottom of the car.

 

SHOCKS - Any steel nonadjustable, none gas charged shock (when it is compressed it must stay compressed), all parts must be steel. Aluminum rod end on shaft end ok. NO bump stops or coil overs. Eliminators are allowed with a 5” minimum spring.

 

SPRINGS – One spring per corner for a maximum of four springs total. Minimum spring size is 5” in diameter. No tapered or barrel springs, spring must remain the same diameter from top to bottom of the entire spring and spring coil thickness must remain the same from top to bottom of the spring. No rear preloaders. No leaf spring birdcage, and front and rear leaf springs must be solid mounted to chassis.

 

BRAKES - Only single piston OEM style brake calipers allowed. After market brake rotors allowed.

 

Steering– Full size OEM steering box unless rack and pinon is factory for a hobby stock year for make and model on package and mounted in factory location. Rack and pinon ok for perimeter tour car package. Any style center link okay.

 

The following infractions will result in a firm penalty which could include a LIFETIME ban from the series.

 

A.  Being caught with traction control.

B.  Bypassing the RPM limiting control device in any way.

C.  Altering the 602-crate engine under the seals in any way that is non-OEM. (you may run aftermarket valve springs but they must be the same spring pressures as OEM, you may run any carburetor, you may run an aftermarket OEM replacement distributer, you must run a mechanical fuel pump in the stock location, and you must run the stock oil pan and stock harmonic balancer).

D.  Altering the Hoosier 970 tire, such as soaking the tire, or cutting the tire. Tires be a stock 970 tire.

E.  If you are caught cheating the fuel in any way, the Sunoco fuel and the Chevron 91 octane fuel must be stock, and must not have ANY additives whatsoever.

 

Illegal components will be confiscated by Madera Speedway and become property of the speedway.

 

Madera Speedway Race Procedures – for training purposes the MAVTV Pro Late Model race procedures will be used for the Pro Sportsman division.

 

Charged Fire System Mandatory. Head and neck restraints are mandatory.

 

All cars must run a transponder mounted 12" behind the rear axle.
